If we can identify the causes of liver cirrhosis in a timely manner and fight them together with the doctor, the effect will be excellent. The causes of cirrhosis can be of viral and non-viral origin.

Viral causes of cirrhosis

Viral cirrhosis can be associated with viruses that become chronic. These most commonly include the following hepatitis viruses:

  • Hepatitis B
  • Hepatitis C
  • Hepatitis D

Non-viral factors

Fatty liver disease, which many people disregard and brush off by saying «everyone has it», can also lead to cirrhosis if not intervened in time. Non-viral causes include:

  • Diabetes mellitus
  • Fatty liver disease
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Metabolic disorders (this also includes copper metabolism disorder known as Wilson's disease)
  • Thrombosis of the portal vein (the main vein entering the liver)
