Treatment of hepatitis depends on the type of disease and the condition of the liver. Hepatitis C is a curable disease; if there are no problems in the liver, treatment lasts for 3 months, and in some cases from 3 to 6 months.
Treatment of hepatitis and individual approach
When Hepatitis B virus is detected, we are not in a rush to prescribe medications because the patient must first undergo certain procedures. To determine whether treatment is needed, the following examinations are performed:
- The patient's complaints are listened to and blood tests are examined;
- The viral load is checked;
- If the viral load turns out to be high, the liver is evaluated elastographically.
When making a treatment decision, at a later stage, the adaptation of drugs to the virus and its resistance are taken into account.
Research on Hepatitis B
Just like Hepatitis C, research is being conducted on the treatment of Hepatitis B. The congress we attended in Vienna also confirms that treatment for this virus will be possible.
The importance of Hepatitis D screening
Along with Hepatitis B, screening for the Hepatitis D virus is very important. Patients who have been complacent for years thinking they are only Hepatitis B carriers, but have not been tested for Hepatitis D, are shocked when they learn about this later.
