Hepatitis B virus is a highly relevant issue not only in Azerbaijan but worldwide, and it can cause severe complications in the liver. Because this disease takes a chronic form, patients often consult a doctor at the very end, which is why hepatitis B is a very insidious disease.
How is hepatitis B transmitted?
Although literature notes various transmission routes such as saliva, sexual secretions, mucus, and blood, in practice we most commonly see transmission through blood. These transmission cases mainly occur through the following means:
- In non-sterile dental and gynecological offices;
- During tattoo procedures, which are very common among youth, and drug addiction;
- Through almost all other means that come into contact with blood.
What complications arise if left untreated?
Because the hepatitis B virus takes a chronic course, patients unfortunately consult a doctor at the very end. When diagnosed untimely and check-up examinations are not undergone, by the time patients seek help we can already observe complications up to hepatocellular carcinoma.
This virus has a very peculiar feature: it lays the foundation for a malignant tumor even before causing cirrhosis in the liver tissue. If left untreated, complications in the liver can multiply further. Therefore, we kindly ask our patients to uncover problems occurring in the body from time to time through check-ups.
