Autoimmune hepatitis and its types

Autoimmune hepatitis is actually not an unfamiliar term to us. We observe autoimmune diseases in the thyroid gland, in our kidneys, and also in our liver.

What does autoimmune hepatitis mean?

Sometimes when the word "autoimmune" is used, patients get confused and ask what kind of disease this is. It means that adjacent cells do not get along with each other, meaning they do not accept one another. The duty of us doctors is, so to speak, to restore the friendly and companionable relationship between those cells.

Autoimmune hepatitis and its types

Autoimmune hepatitis comes in three types: type one, type two, and type three. Some of their characteristics are as follows:

  • Type one: This type of autoimmune hepatitis occurs among women in 80% of cases.
  • Type three: In this case, along with the liver, we observe impairment of kidney function as well.
