Hepatitis viruses and the fear of cirrhosis
People have a great fear of hepatitis B and C viruses. They think that if these viruses are present in the body, they will soon get cirrhosis. However, this is not the case. There are four degrees of fibrosis. It takes at least 3-5 years for first-degree fibrosis to progress to the second degree. The transformation of fibrosis into cirrhosis takes about 10 years, and at least 12-20 years must pass from the first degree to the fourth degree (cirrhosis). If the patient applies in a timely manner at the second and third degrees of fibrosis, the factor causing fibrosis is identified, they receive treatment, and the liver regenerates, self-healing and returning to a healthy state.
How do we detect changes in the liver?
Ultrasound examination is used first and foremost to determine changes in the liver. However, ultrasound examination describes only the crudest changes in the liver. We need to diagnose the liver at earlier stages, i.e., before the fourth stage. For this, the most modern method at our disposal is the elastography (elastometry) device. Using this device, we make a diagnosis and, by examining the patient every six months in the future and also providing their treatment, we clearly reveal the changes in the liver.
